WARCOLLAPSE INTERVIEW-2009
UOU!! Really don´t need introduction for this amazing Crust artillery called WARCOLLAPSE!!!!!!
Thay are my favorites for years and years....
This was made with Jalle!!!
CRUST AS FUCK EXISTENCE!!!!!!!!
VP=TELL US A SHORT HISTORY FROM WARCOLLAPSE....WHEN DID YOU START THE BAND...LINE UP...ETC....
W=Me and Emil started it in 1991. We used to get drunk and play grindcore under the the name EARCOLLAPSE. Then we thought "why not a real band?", so the name was changed to WARCOLLAPSE and we started playing the music we really wanted, crusty d-beat. We recorded a 6-track demo called "Misery& Despair" in 1992 and it got some good responses. The line-up was then me on vocals/drums and Emil bass/guitars. Kalle and Janne joined shortly after. Except for a couple of replacements for shorter periods the line-up has remained the same throughout the years: Janne bass, Kalle drums, Emil guitars and myself on vocals.
VP=WHY "WARCOLLAPSE"???
W=During the time of coming up with the name, the "Dis-name wave" was huge with lots and lots of dis-bands and we were rather fed up with all dis-names. However, all those bands sang about war, had war-titles on tracks and records, so the idea to change from EAR to WAR was to take it one step beyond the dis-name trend. To what it's all about; war.
VP=MANY PEOPLES HAVE SAID TONS OF SHITS AGAINST "D-BEAT","DISCORE" AND "CRUST" TODAY...WHAT IS YOUR VISIONS ABOUT THIS??
ARE YOU A CRUST BAND???
W=We're a crusty d-beat punk band. If a band to me sounds good then it really doesn't matter what sub punk genre they're
labeled or claim to belong to. A good thing with genres though is to get a clue on what type of stuff you might except from
a record of a band you haven't heard yet. A bad thing is that genres divides the scene when taken too seriously.
VP=I HEAR THAT JALLE PLAYED IN THE GREAT AND AMAZING CRUDE S.S. IN THE PAST...CAN YOU TELL US SOME GOOD MOMENTS WITH CRUDE
S.S. AND ALL THAT AMAZING SWEDISH ERA???
W=Yeah, but I don't have that many stories to tell really. We rehearsed a lot, probably 2-3 times a week, since there was
absolutely nothing else to do in that shitty little village we came from. We drank beer, rehearsed and listened alot to
Discharge, Anti-Sect, Disorder and Chaos U.K etc. We recorded a couple of demos, played live a couple of times and ended up
on a couple of compilation-albums. Then I quit the band and moved away. Lots of great gigs, records, bands and zines around
then, as it is now. Good times!
VP=AND JANNE PLAYED IN DOM DAR...DOM DAR IS STILL ACTIVE/PLAYING???
W=Yes, he did and DOM DÄR split up in 1991.
VP=WHAT ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES IN WARCOLLAPSE??? AND YOUR FAVORITE BANDS...
W=Too many to list, but DISCHARGE, ANTI-SECT and AMEBIX mixed with Japanese and Greek bands sums our main influences up
pretty good. Favorite stuff includes d-beat, crust, death/black metal and the list could go on... instead of a huge,
neverending list (I'm too hung over), I'll just write down the band that I'm listening to at this very moment:
FRAMTID!
VP=WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT BRAZILIAN SCENE?? PAST AND TODAY?? AND WHAT DO YOU ENJOY FROM OUR SCENE???
W=RATOS DE PORAO ruled back in the days! There's been alot of great bands coming out of Brazil throughout the years, not just
punk, but also thrash metal. I like a lot of stuff at present such as BESTHÖVEN, DEFY, DISARM and LOBOTOMIA to name some.
VP=SAY US YOUR COMPLETE DISCOGRAPHY AND NEW UPCOMING RELEASES...
W=Split w/ E.O.M EP
Indoctri-Nation EP
Crust As Fuck Existence MCD
Split w/ DISRUPT EP
Wandering in Darkness EP
Divine Intoxication LP/CD/TAPE
Crap, Scrap and Unforgiveable Slaughter EP
Live Intoxication 10"
Defy! LP/CD
A couple of demos, compilations and videos.
We're working on a new cover EP and this time we will destroy some random scandinavian tracks. We have chosen one track
from each country, but things are moving slow. We're also working on the new album. We thought the album would be
done and out already in 2008 but due to work and life in general, we have had to put it on hold for some time. It'll be
completed, just not as fast as we first thought.
VP=WHO WRITE THE LYRICS...AND WHAT DO YOU TRY TO SHOW IN??
W=I write them, but both Emil and Kalle has been involved in the writings a couple of times (Emil on the track "Drunk,
Collapsed, Destroyed" and Kalle on "Långsam Död"). Some are from personal experiences, while others are my views on war,
religion, mankind, unjustice, society and life in general. I'm a depressed bastard and I suppose that shows through in some
of the lyrics.
VP=DO YOU HAVE AN EP WITH JUST COVERS AND PARTICIPATES IN THE ANTI-CIMEX TRIBUTE ALBUM...HOW MANY IMPORTANT IS TO PLAY
COVERSONGS?? YOU THINK IS GOOD SINCE NEW PEOPLES SOMETIMES START TO KNOW OLD BANDS FROM THAT,ETC...?
W="Crap, Scrap and Unforgiveable Slaughter" was our tribute to bands that meant alot to us in our youths, and still do. So
that one was a dedicated statement of our appreciation for these great bands old records, but also to get new people a chance
to discover these classics. It's not important to do covers, but we like to do them now and then.
VP-ABOUT YOUR CD IN A PERUVIAN LABEL I THINK THAT IT..S FUCKING GOOD CO..Z HERE IN BRAZIL IS FUCKING HARD TO FIND YOUR
RECORDS AND WITH THIS CD MORE AND MORE PEOPLES FROM 3RD WORLD NOW CAN GET THIS AND KNOW BETTER YOUR WORK...WHAT DO YOU THINK
ABOUT THIS??? ANY POSSIBILITY TO TOUR IN SOUTH AMERICA????
W=Yes, Helvetet Records is located in Peru and it felt great to be able to support their scene this way. I agree with you that
stuff should be more available. Especially if you don't have internet access, cause on the www I think all of our records
are downloadable on various sites. MP3 is better than nothing.
We'd love to do a South American tour some day!
VP=AND NOW THE END.......
W=Cheers, beers and thanks for the interest Fofao! Keep up the good work!
Go vegan and stay punk!
